ABOUT BIBERON

Officially born in 2018, curated since 1993.

OUR STORY

"BIBERON"; spanish, french and italian for "baby bottle", was designed and founded by me, Basema Hamied, in 2018. I was born in Chicago to a Palestinian father and an Irish American mother, but grew up in Manchester, CT. A lifelong creative and largely self-taught, it was always my dream to work in the arts, but the arts is not a poor man's sport. Having had no money most of my life, having lived in deeply toxic and abusive places where survival was my day to day reality, the only thing that brought me hope and freedom, was art. As a child (and even still) old black and white films and shows transported me to a different world and watching drag helped me find people that I could truly relate to; people who were uncomfortable in their own skin, who were told daily and felt to their core how unloveable they were because of other people's unkindness, but found salvation in their ART; these things were my lifeline and deeply influential to my work today. BIBERON was born from a lot of pain, but has become a journey of love and creation. BIBERON is my baby and the baby bottle; the comfort to my soul; that I carry around with me everyday. It is bright and beautiful and happy and I hope that everyone who wears it will feel the same.

Don't stop believing.

By many, I was told it would never happen; that I should have a backup, a plan b; but that was never an option to me. If we are not living to our soul's purpose, are we truly living? There have always been, and always will be, reasons to quit, but I believe that persistence, belief in oneself and one's creation, will get you anywhere so I decided that no matter what the cost, I would live my dreams. When COVID hit, like many, I felt completely defeated. I was starting to make traction with the brand, but it all stopped, for an indefinite period. I had no control over anything, but the one thing I did have control over was CAPITAL. I had no money and it takes money to build a business, especially one like mine. So, I worked odd jobs and saved, determined to build not only a brand, but a beautiful and safe place for all to enjoy. November 2023, I opened my first store. It was extremely stressful, but very fulfilling and I'm still learning every day, facing new challenges, but also finding out even more about myself and all the ways I can be creative and resilient. There are so many new things that BIBERON will be sharing, and I cannot wait to share them with you!

I believe it is everyone's responsibility in everything that we do to not only be kind to other human beings, but to this planet in which we live and the animals with whom we share it. My goal with BIBERON is to create beauty not only with my designs, but with how I source. I will always strive to do better with every new collection and direction I take with my brand. My brand is 100% cruelty free, featuring sustainable materials that are durable and kind to everyone!

Should any item you buy from me wear or break in an unusual fashion, I will replace it.
